Privacy Policy

Last updated October 14, 2026

Horror House is a film diary for horror fans. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have. The short version: we collect what the app needs to work, we never sell your data, we don't show ads, and we don't use tracking cookies.

What we collect

  • Account details— email address, username, display name, password (hashed by our auth provider), and date of birth. Your date of birth is used only to confirm you're 13 or older and to show content warnings to members under 18. It is never shown publicly.
  • What you post — ratings, reviews, scare scores, lists, shelves, comments, reactions, messages, profile details, and images you upload.
  • What you track— films you've watched, want to watch, or favorited, and who you follow.
  • Payments — if you subscribe to Pro, Stripe processes your payment. We receive a customer and subscription ID, never your card number.
  • Technical data — a session cookie that keeps you signed in, and standard server logs (IP address, browser) kept by our hosting providers for security.

How we use it

  • To run the service: show your diary, power recommendations, deliver notifications and messages.
  • To keep the community safe: review reports and enforce our guidelines.
  • To manage Pro subscriptions.

We don't sell or rent personal data, share it for advertising, or use it to build ad profiles.

Who we share it with

Only the service providers that run Horror House, under their own privacy commitments:

  • Supabase — database, authentication, and file storage
  • Vercel — hosting
  • Stripe — payments (Pro only)

Film data comes from TMDB and OMDb; we don't send them your personal information. Some "Where to Watch" links are affiliate links — following one takes you to the retailer, whose own privacy policy applies.

What's public

Your username, display name, avatar, and reviews are public by default. You can limit who sees your watched list, watchlist, reviews, lists, activity, and stats in Settings → Privacy, and make individual lists private. Direct messages are visible only to the people in the conversation.

Your rights

Wherever you live — including under GDPR and the CCPA — you can access, correct, export, or delete your data:

  • Edit your profile any time in Settings.
  • Pro members can export ratings, reviews, and lists as CSV; anyone can request a copy by email.
  • Delete your account in Settings. You choose whether your reviews stay up as "Deleted user" or are erased with everything else.

California residents: we do not sell or share personal information as defined by the CCPA. You won't be treated differently for exercising your rights.

Children

Horror House is not for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child under 13 has an account, contact us and we'll delete it.

Retention

We keep your data while your account exists. When you delete your account, your data is removed from our database right away, except reviews you chose to keep anonymously.

Changes and contact

We'll post changes here and update the date above. Questions or requests: the Report link on any review, list, or profile.
